Harishchandragad
Fort
Dating back to 6th Century,
Harishchandragad fort offers nature view and trekking option to the
tourists. The architectural beauty of the fort includes the deep pan like
structures at the edge and the three peaks. This fort is surrounded by caves
dating back to same period as that of the fort which is also a tourist spot.
The trekking begins at Khireshwar village at the base of this fort and one has
to take about 9 kilometers to reach the altitude of 1424 metres of
Harishchandragad fort. While trekking the roads, there are a number of tiny
hills giving beautiful natural views before reaching the peak of fort.
Nane Ghat
This is another trekking spot via motor
bikes friendly road in Malshej Ghats’ area. Historically, this trekking route
was used as a road for trade negotiations between Junnar and Kalyan villages in
the past. The road now is full of historical remnants, making it a wonderful
trekking experience.
Pimpalgaon Joga Dam
Built over the Pushpavati River, this dam
nestles a variety of birds throughout the year. These birds seek homage during
monsoon at the dam making it a tourist spot. Bird lovers get to see a variety
of species of birds such as flamingoes, Alpine Swift, Quail, Cuckoo and Purple
Moorhen in the beautiful backdrop of dam with river flowing on either side.
This itself is a natural scenic view, a moment to be captured and preserved for
future.
The Shivneri Fort
Known for being the birthplace of Maharaja
Shivaji, this fort is one of the prominent places of historical importance at
about 40 kms from Malshej Ghats. This fort is surrounded by Buddhist caves also
and dates back to 3rd century. In close proximity exists the Vigneshwar temple
dedicated to Lord Ganesha at Ozar Village.
Waterfalls
A visit to Malshej Ghats is incomplete
without a visit to the waterfalls. The huge waterfalls include the scenic
beauty of fogs, mist and woody forests surrounding the hair pin road bends.
These waterfalls enter the terrains of roads and hence easily accessible for a
splash of bath on the way.
Birds Grave
At the time of monsoon onset this place is
regarded as a suspicious graveyard for smaller birds. Majorly these birds make
their nest in Western Ghats crags. The birds get perplexed in monsoon due to
blast of air, thick mist and heavy rains and hence majorly die due to being
blinded by bright lights of vehicle and are hit by them. But lately due to
involvement of naturalists these incidents have decreased significantly. The
most eminent feature of Malshej Ghat is it being visited by herd of seasonal
birds in months from July to September from Siberia. Pink-Legged Flamingo
performs mating dance which is great manifestation.
